Most everyday household, garden and building waste can go into a skip. Some materials need to be kept separate because they require specialist handling, so it is always worth checking before you load anything unusual.

FROM BOOKING TO COLLECTION
How Skip Hire Works
A little preparation helps make delivery, loading and collection straightforward.
Choose Your Skip or Service
Select a 2, 4 or 6-yard skip, or contact us if you need a larger commercial option or assisted clearance.
Tell Us About Your Waste
Let us know what you are clearing so we can confirm that the material is accepted and recommend the right service.
Confirm Placement and Access
Choose a suitable private placement area and tell us about gates, parked cars, overhead cables or restricted access.
Load Safely and Arrange Collection
Keep the waste level with the sides and contact our team if you need to discuss collection or make a change to your booking.
HOW IT WORKS
Four Important Loading Rules
Correct loading protects your property, our drivers and other road users, while helping us collect the skip without delays.
Keep It Level
Do not load waste above the sides of the skip. An overloaded skip may be unsafe to lift or transport and could delay collection.
Spread the Weight
Distribute heavy material evenly rather than placing all the weight at one end. Speak to us before loading large quantities of soil, concrete or rubble.
Keep Restricted Items Out
Do not mix electricals, upholstered seating, batteries, chemicals or other restricted materials into the load. Contact us if you are unsure about an item.
Never Burn Waste
Do not light fires or place hot ashes, burning materials or unknown liquids inside the skip.

WHERE CAN YOUR SKIP GO?
Driveway, Private Land or Roadside?
A driveway or other suitable private hardstanding is normally the simplest place for a skip. It keeps the skip close to your project and does not require a skip permit.
If a skip needs to remain on a public road, a council permit is required. The application process, cost and safety requirements vary, so speak to our team before booking. Skips cannot be placed on the pavement. GOV.UK skip permit guidance
- No permit needed when the skip is entirely on private land
- Hardstanding is preferable to grass or soft ground
- Tell us about access restrictions before delivery
- Roadside placement must be agreed in advance
- Roadside Load & Go may suit jobs without space for a skip to remain
RESPONSIBLE WASTE HANDLING
What Happens After Collection?
Collected waste is taken through authorised waste-management routes, where suitable materials can be separated for reuse, recycling or other forms of recovery. Wolverhampton Skips reports that more than 90% of collected waste is reprocessed rather than sent directly to landfill.

QUICK ANSWERS
Frequently Asked Questions
A few quick answers to the questions we are asked most often. For anything else, call our Wolverhampton team.
Can I put a mattress in a skip?
Mattresses should not be placed in a standard mixed skip. They require separate bulky-waste handling, so contact our team to discuss the available disposal options.
Can I put a fridge, freezer or television in a skip?
No. These are electrical waste and require separate handling. Do not place them in a general skip. Contact us before booking so we can advise on the correct service.
Can I put plasterboard in a skip?
Speak to us before loading plasterboard. Gypsum-based waste may need to be kept separate so that it can be handled through the correct waste route. Government guidance identifies gypsum as requiring specific classification and disposal arrangements. GOV.UK landfill guidance
Do I need a permit?
You need a permit if the skip will remain on a public road. No permit is required when it is placed entirely on private land. Skips cannot be placed on the pavement.
What if I need something larger than a 6-yard skip?
Contact us about larger commercial skip options. Depending on the waste, access and amount of loading required, Roadside Load & Go or Man & Van clearance may also be suitable.
Can I mix garden waste and household rubbish?
Usually, provided none of the bags contain food, animal waste or another restricted material. Tell us what you are clearing when you book if you are unsure.
How full can I load the skip?
Waste must remain level with the top of the skip and must not extend above the sides. We may be unable to collect an overloaded skip until the excess material has been removed.
How long can I keep the skip?
The standard skip cards currently show seven-day hire. Contact the office before your planned collection if you need to discuss a change or extension.
Can the skip go on grass?
Hardstanding such as a driveway is normally best. Skips can damage grass or sink into soft ground, so discuss the proposed placement with our team before delivery.
What if I accidentally put a restricted item in the skip?
Contact us before collection and tell us what has been added. Do not attempt to hide the item beneath other waste, as it may affect how the entire load has to be handled.
